Fishing Reports

We started the morning offshore targeting bluefin tuna. The early bite was on, and we were able to hook up and successfully release a couple of bluefins before making a move. After a solid start offshore, we made the call to run inshore and head south off Long Beach Island to check on the striped bass activity.

We ran into what can only be described as the motherload of striped bass. The birds were working aggressively, bait was getting pushed to the surface, and the water was alive. For over an hour straight, it was nonstop action. We landed over 100 bass during that window, all on NLBN swim shads and topwater poppers.

The bird action was incredible. The feed was explosive. It was one of those rare, unforgettable blitzes that every angler hopes to experience at least once.

This was a trip on the Can Do Too out of Brielle Yacht Club in Briele, NJ. 

We left the dock around noon, got to the grounds around 4, and had about three hours before dark. We set up a drift or two behind the draggers and got bites instantly. We had multiple hook ups, but unfortunately lost about four of them to sharks and two that we killed had shark bites taken out of them. We ended up with 5 or 6 in the box before the sun went down. 

Then first light came in the morning, and so did the wind, but right back at it we went. We set up a drift behind a dragger, started slinging baits, and then instantly had lights out fishing for a few hours. 

We ended up stuffing the boxes full of yellowfins to take home.
